When your character wants to succeed in anything that they do there is always one resource that they can look at to help them do it – other people. There is a certain strength in numbers that can’t be achieved by any force of individual strength.
If you think that it isn’t always easy to interact with others than you could be right but there is one powerful tool that you can use to help others see things in a different light.
It is the tool of the ages – courtiers, gentlemen, ladies, and politicians all use it to herd the masses into their point of view. So what is this ultra-powerful force that bends minds and causes others to see things in your light?
Believe it or not the answer is simply ‘manners.’ Manners are a cornerstone to being someone in the spotlight.
Showing that you have manners does not mean that you have to be forgiving or always bend to another’s wishes; it merely dictates how you present yourself – even in situations when you are angry or frustrated with someone else.
A character that can react to a bad situation with elegance and respect is almost instantly vaulted into the realm of being someone who is in control and control helps garner respect and an air of understanding.
It is nothing more than a set of well defined manners that helps provide that calm, demure and elegant demeanour with which you treat others. It is same demeanour that shows others with respect and compassion which causes them to enjoy being with you, defending you, and listening to your every word.
What kind of character bent on success couldn’t use a little help in that regard?
However I feel that I should warn you if you are a woman you may find in many cases others will presume that because you are being a lady-like you must be helpless or that you can easily become a doormat to others.
Depending on the LARP that you participate in or the character that you play these assumptions may be fine but many LARPs today reflect our more modern social position on this matter.
Do not be afraid to shatter these presumptions. A woman can very well be a lady and still be quite capable and self-reliant.
All the best in your future LARP endevours,
