Raven LARP is a new medieval fantasy live action role playing game that has been launched by Paul Church and Stefan Samoyloff within the southern region on Ontario.
This new LARP boasts a format that I have personally never seen in a live action role playing game before – a mandatory closing to the storyline after 5 years of play. Personally I think the idea is fantastic, much like our beloved Babylon 5, however there may be some complications with this theory.
While the idea is, in my opinion, brilliant regarding the story arc of the game it does beg to question ‘what happens to by investment into my character?’ I play for the story but many play for the purpose of acting out a character concept that they can’t normally get away with; what happens to them?
I can’t make an official announcement because the guys at Raven LARP have stated that have something very special in mind for that 5th season, but I can say that I’d be willing to take the chance. I am looking forward to their second event day so I can dig in and see what they have to offer.
Although the Raven LARP community forums have been live for a few weeks (to help in the development and release of information to a closed control group) they have officially released their website! You can find that here: RavenLARP.com
If you are a rule book junkie (you know who you are) then I invite you to take a look at their rules system and theories on how to balance the game to the rules and not the other way around. Feel free to post reviews on the LARPSource.com forums and let me know what you think.
All the best in your future LARP endeavours,
