I have always found in facinating to watch others slip into the stream of LARPing; a part of me is facinated by the way that they will handle it.
Let’s face it, live action role playing isn’t exactly the easiest topic of discussion. How do you explain what you enjoy about it without sounding completely off the wall? Why would you do this to yourself?
My opinion on the matter is simple – embrace it in all of it’s glory (or potential glory in some cases).
Ever wonder what people are thinking on that first day? I do. If they were to be completely candid what would they say?
Yesterday I got to see one person’s journey into LARP, Irish stand-up comedian Dara O’Briain, and I have to say that he didn’t hold back. Candid to the camera about all of his hesitations, trials, and confusion O’Briain tells it as it is in his mind.
And to put the perverbial cherry on top O’Briain also does a set of stand-up comedy about his experience as a LARPer at the end of his plight into LARPdom. As he puts it “I don’t know if I’ll ever use the Orc material again…” but all in all I think he took it rather well.
